Tree Care Tips

When a Christmas tree is cut, over half of its weight is water. With proper care, you can maintain the quality of your displayed tree.

1. In selecting a tree, make sure that the "handle" at the bottom is long enough to allow the trunk to fit into your tree stand.
2. When you get your tree home, cut 1/2 to 1 inch off the base and stand in a bucket of water in a shady place. Check water level several times as it could use up to a gallon a day.
3. When you take your tree inside, again cut off 1/2 to 1 inch off the base before placing in stand.
4. Do not put your tree near a fireplace or other heating source (heaters, heat vents, direct sunlight). Lowering the room temperature slightly will also help slow the drying process, resulting in less water consumption each day.
5. Keep tree well-watered. It's possible that tree will consume approximately 1 quart of water per inch of stem diameter.
